Redefining the Medication Experience
We are redefining how healthcare providers, communities, and policymakers approach medication management, misuse, and treatment in the Opioid Epidemic.
Our Mission
To provide innovative medication services that engage, educate, and empower our community.
Our History
End Mass Overdose Inc. doing business as EMO Health is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded by a female Navy Veteran in 2015 to provide innovative solutions and leverage pharmacists as drug experts and educators to improve medication usage and health outcomes.
In 2017, EMO Health partnered with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to pilot a first-of-its-kind medication model of care in a 100-bed ASAM 3.1 level of care addiction treatment facility. The program gained national recognition in 2018 and is currently funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Today, EMO’s medication management and training services are open to nearly 500 substance use disorder programs serving over 5,800 patients in Massachusetts.
“Substance misuse is a symptom of substance use disorder. The instinct is to take a medication away when it is being misused. Yet, in every other health condition, when symptoms get worse or non-adherence occurs, we add support rather than taking it away. We need to start approaching addiction and mental health the same way.”
-Allison Burns, Founder EMO Health
